ABOUT US

In 2007, Paul Carlson opened Vinoteca at the corner of 11th and U Street, NW.  When starting to think about his second venture as a restaurateur, Paul decided to join forces with his parents, Ron and Gloria, and sister, Katrina, to bring the Royal to Washington, DC.  The concept of the Royal stems from the family’s background and love of cooking, good drinks, and spending time with family and friends. 

The Royal allows the family to share with the neighborhood, food and drinks inspired by their international background – Gloria is originally from Colombia; Ron’s family is from Sweden; Ron was a Foreign Service Officer and as a result the family spent over 20 years living overseas (Ecuador, Panama, Honduras, Guatemala, and Morocco) – and provide LeDroit Park with a place to come together with  family and friends.

The Royal is a family-owned corner neighborhood hangout located in the hearth of DC's historic LeDroit Park.

CAFE & BAR

A coffee shop and lunch spot by day, and an intimate bar and kitchen by night.

COLOMBIAN INSPIRED

The Royal is a unique all-day destination for morning ocffee, leisurely lunch, after-work cocktails, and simple yet creative food.
